Making Futures

The fourth Making Futures international research conference, hosted by Plymouth College of Art, will be held in Plymouth in September 2015.

This conference, 'Making Futures: craft and the (re)turn of the maker in a post-global sustainably aware society' will explore contemporary craft as a change agent, in relation to global sustainability, social entrepreneurialism and community regeneration: "Moving between the individual and the social, the personal and the collective, the conference will investigate what it means ‘to make’ and its future significations - personally, artistically, economically, politically… its impact on sustainable agendas, its subversion of mass consumption, its relation to new technologies, its contribution to community and 'place-making', and to the possible emergence of new political economies."
Previous conference proceedings have assisted in disseminating important new knowledge in the relatively new area of craft research. Their 2013 journal comprising of double-blind peer-reviewed presentations is available here.
The conference papers for Making Futures 2015 will be published online in 2016.
